Advancing rights and well-being for humans, nonhumans, and the web of life that sustains us all.
The More-Than-Human Life (MOTH) Program was founded in 2022 at NYU School of Law and has grown into one of the world's leading interdisciplinary initiatives working at the intersection of ecological law and governance, storytelling and the arts, and the science of more-than-human life.
Through law, science, Indigenous knowledge, and the arts, MOTH works to bring the more-than-human world into the full ambit of moral, legal, and social concern.

Who we are:

What we do:
The MOTH Program’s work spans five interconnected areas of action, including the intersection of ecology and technology. From the PEPP Framework for NACTs to research on how advances in AI and other technologies could improve protections for nonhuman animals, MOTH asks how we can best use technology (and guard against its excesses) to better understand and relate to nonhumans and nature.

Have a question, idea for collaboration, or interest in the PEPP Framework? We welcome inquiries from researchers, practitioners, and organizations working at the intersection of technology, law, and the more-than-human world. Reach out to start a conversation or explore ways to get involved.
